Description: Got that all too frequent leak at the cam carrier / head interface? Here are some pictures of the B234F in various stages of cam carrier disassembly, from start to finish. This is a handy so that you can see where you are going and, most importantly, what things should look like on the way back. I have grouped the pictures into a pdf file so that you can zoom in on the pictures and so that you can print off a nice reference copy to have on hand when you are in the thick of it. Below are the same pictures but listed as separate jpg files.

File info: b234f/16v oil leak repair5.jpg (size: 123 K)
Description: 1991 740GLE 16 valve, photo of the cam carrier by itself. The use of a cam carrier, rather than installing the cams directly onto the head, makes it cheaper and simpler to rebuild the cams, should the need arise. The two mating surfaces (bottom of carrier, top of head) have to be sparkling clean before reapplying gasket goo, else you will surly get oil leaks. Use a spray gasket remover and a razor blade, followed up by lots of spray brake cleaner.
